Marilyn Monroe was an American actress, model, comedienne and singer born on June 1, 1926 at Los Angeles. Her original name was Norma Jeane Mortenson. She starred in a number of commercially successful films and regaraded as one of the major icon of pop culture of Golden Age of hollywood. She was famous for playing comic blonde bombshell in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. The American Film Insitute in 1991 ranked her as the sixth greatest female screen legends from the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Who was the father of Marilyn Monroe?

Mariln mother was Gladys Pearl Baker who was born in Mexico, to American parents from Indiana and Missouri. Marilyn biological father was unknown and undetermined. However some said that through Dna testing, it has been established that Marilyn biological father was Charles Stanley Gifford who was born in Rhode Island.

Early life and Education of Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn had a traumatic, disrupted and loveless childhood. Marilyn’s mother had aturbulent mental state and financially weak so her mother was frequently confined in an asylum. She growth in a number of successive foster parents and also in orphanage. She was in orphan until 1937, when she moved in with her family friend Grace McKee Goddard.

However,she was again have to be left alone when Grace’s husband was transferred to the West Virginia. According to California child protection laws of that time prevented the Grace’s husband from taking Monroe. Marilyn had either return to the orphanage or get married. To avoid to live in an orphanage or a new foster home, she married in 1942, just after her 16th birthday to her neighbour Jimmy Dougherty who was then 21-year-old.

Marilyn remained as a housewife for sometime. Her husband went to  join the Merchant Marines and shipped to Pacific in 1944 where he remained there for atleast two years. Her first marriage was failed . They were not close and the couple divorced in 1946. Her memory of her first marriage would make her a strong and resilient woman. After her husband left, she worked at a local factory in Burbank, California.

Marilyn did not know she had a sister until she was 17 or 18. She had also half-siblings from her father Gifford’s first marriage, a brother and a sister.

Marilyn studied at Emerson Junior High School and She was good in writing. She studied Van Nuys High Schoo for sometime. However her difficult childhood and early marriage made her early drop out from the school.

Modelling and Acting Career of Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn modelling career started when she worked  at the Radioplane Company, a munitions local factory in Van Nuys, California. In  1944, she met photographer DavidMarilyn Monroe Conover, who had came to the factory wher Marilyn worked to shoot morale-boosting pictures of female workers.However none of her pictures were used. In 1945 she quit working in the factory and started a new  journey in modelling. In 1945 She signed a contract with the Blue Book Model Agency.

And  on August 26, 1946 she also signed a short-term contract with Twentieth Century-Fox with the screen name Marilyn Monroe by borrowing her grandmother’s last name. she signed it for one-year and a pay out of $125 per weak. At that time she had already beacame a popular photographer’s model but she did not appeared in any films during that one year.

Marilyn starred for a small role in Ladies of the Chorus in 1948, in 1950 came Asphalt Jungle of John Huston. Her performance was praised for her role in All About Eve as Claudia Caswell.In 1950 she signed a seven-year contract with Twentieth Century Fox. In early 1950’s She worked successively in movies-1951- Let’s Make It Legal and Love Nest , 1952-Clash by Night, 1953- and Niagara .  However She began to came in limelight and gain her stardom from her performance in Niagara Wher she acted as a young beautiful woman (Rose Loomis).

At an early age of 27 she was voted the Best New Actress of 1953.  she was loved by her fans as the best-loved blonde bombshell in Hollywood and received several thousand fan letters. She appeared in both comedy and serious films. some of the comedy films such as The Seven Year Itch (1955) and Bus Stop (1956). Her serious role came for the first time in Some Like It Hot (1959). Her last film was written by her third husband Arthur Miller-The Misfits (1961).

Marilyn married three times in her life.

First husband James Dougherty : 1942-1946

Marilyn Monroe with her first husbandFor the first time she married to James Dougherty who was her neighbour.At that time she was just 16 years old and James was then 21 at the time. She married to James when she was still knowns as Norma Jean. when her guardian Grace transferred to the West Virginia she had no option other than to marry James. Their relation were not secure and good.

Once Marilyn said “My relationship with James was basically insecure fromthe first night I spent alone with him,”. The relation detiorated more when James went to join Marines and shipped to Pacific in 1944 where he remained there for atleast two years.They divorced in 1946.After Marilyn passed away, James told That if he had not gone into Mrechant Marines she would still be Mrs. Dougherty.

Second husband Joe DiMaggio: 1954-1955

They dated for two years and married on January 14, 1954 in San Francisco’s. Marilyn was then only 26 years old who was thriving in her modelling and acting career. According to Marilyn author Donald Spoto, there were  different in views between Marilyn and Joe. Joe wanted Marilyn to be a devoted homemaker and mother.

Meanwhile Marilyn expected a flashy New York sports type” but got a reserved one. Their marriage was not an easy one and short lived. It is also said Marilyn’s screen appearance as a sex symbol created their marriage fall apart while some said the marriage failed due to Joe’s ego. By October 1954, the couple filed for divorce,and divorced on October 27, 1954.

Third husband Arthur Miller: 1956-1961

They became friend, reconnected after Marilyn divorce from Joe and began dating. They got married in 1956 and it was the longest marriage of Marilyn. Marilyn once said she had been madly in love with Arthur. By the time they met she was little-known model and actress to the world. However when they married she had become a famous and glamorous star who was known across the world as a blonde sex seymbol.

The couple’s relation became worse in 1960 when Marilyn worked on the film “The Misfits,” which was written by Miller. Hurtful and painful words from the Arthur and drug overdose problems of Marilyn led to their divore in in 1961.

How did Marilyn Monroe died?

The world was stunned and shock when Marilyn  Monroe died on August 4, 1962 due to barbiturate overdose at the age of 36 in her home in Brentwood, California home. She was found lying nude on her bed facing her face down with a telephone in one hand. Her fans were not ready to believe she was gone. Her body was laid at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California On August 8, 1962.

There are different theories regarding the Marilyn death. One theory said her death was suicide and it was supported by the actress history of suicide attempts and druge use. Other theory said that she had a romantic relationship with President John F. Kennedy, which started when he was a senator. She had many secrets which can be a threat to the national security and she had threathen to reveal it. It was also rumored she had an affair with U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. So she had been killed. However there are no enough evidence to support the theories.
