Grace Patricia Kelly was an American actress who later became Princess Grace of Monaco when married Prince Rainier III. she was also called Patricia Kelly and princess Grace of Monaco. She was known for her beauty and style icon. She was born on November 12, 1929, at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, to wealthy parents who were Irish-Catholic.

Her father was a millionaire and a triple gold-medal-winning Olympic sculler at a time that the sport of rowing was at its zenith. Even in her childhood she wanted to be an actress. Grace Kelly’s first acting career came when she was 12 when she starred in “Don’t Feed the Animals”. Her acting aspirations were encouraged by her uncle, the playwright George Kelly, but her father did not support her.

Grace Kelly studied at Ravenhill Academy and eventually transferred to Stevens School. In 1947, she graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. After she graduated from high school in 1947, Grace went to New York to try her luck and devoted time to her modeling work. She did cover shoots, also worked as a model for her, and made her Broadway debut in her 1949 play “Her Father”.

Acting Career & movies of Grace Kelly

Kelly also enjoyed acting in her plays. She has achieved great success in television and movies. She appeared in 60 TV shows between 1950 and 1953. In 1951, at the age of 22, she appeared in her first film titled  “14 Hours “(1951) in a supporting role. She got her first film major the following year and she played the role of Amy Kane in “High Noon” (1952) with Gary Cooper and Lloyd Bridges.

In 1953, Grace starred in the film “Mogambo” with Clark Gable. The movie was both a jungle drama and her one of the best MGM movies ever released. She later appeared in several Hitchcock films- “Dial M for Murder”, “Rear Window”, and “To Catch a Thief”making them her most critically acclaimed and recognized work.

 She was cast alongside James Stewart in “Rear Window” where she played a crippled photographer who witnesses a murder in the nearest apartment from her wheelchair. Her outstanding performance in Rear Window (1954) made her famous

Kelly then played Bing Crosby’s ailing wife, Georgie Elgin, in Country Girl” (1954), for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress. Her last role came in 1956. It was in Charles Walter’s musical comedy “High Society” (1956), MGM’s remake of “The Philadelphia Story” (1940), she played Tracy Lord alongside Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Celeste Holm. The movie was well successful.

UNESCO describes AMADE as promoting the spiritual well-being of children around the world. In 1964 she founded the Princess Grace Foundation to support local artisans. She was also a supporter of the breastfeeding advocacy group La Leche League.

How did Grace Kelly died?

The Princess of Monaco died in an accident. On September 13, 1982, Princess Grace had a stroke with her daughter Stephanie on the way back to a hilly Monaco roadside. She lost control of her car and fell into an embankment. She was admitted to Princess Grace Hospital Center. The hospital in which she was admitted was eventually renamed after her. Princess Grace died the next day. Her daughter Stephanie, who was also in her car, suffered minor injuries.
